The Hague, May 2025 - As part of its ongoing pilot The Hague tested several new features at a recent event designed to encourage reuse, repair & refurbishment practices.

Visitors had access to both a repair café and a second-hand shop set up directly at the waste station, positioned before the compactor and e-waste bins. This layout offered residents the chance to repair or donate items instead of discarding them, reinforcing a culture of reuse. Secure drop-off points for phones, laptops and tablets were also made available, enabling data-safe disposal of small electronics and helping to clear out drawers across the city.

Flyers were distributed on-site, directing residents to nearby repair cafés and second-hand shops, supporting long-term behaviour change beyond the event.

In parallel, a striking visual statement was made outside City Hall: a full container of e-waste representing the 5,130 kg removed from The Hague every day, totaling 1.8 million kg annually. Alongside this display, a city map featuring local repairers and second-hand outlets illustrated the viable alternatives available to residents.

This event forms part of a broader awareness campaign running for the next two weeks, aiming to increase public engagement around waste reduction, reuse, and circular economy practices in The Hague.
