Getting rid of old items has never been easier — and more sustainable. Within the Aachen ecosystem, the City of Aachen together with the Aachener Stadtbetrieb has expanded its existing mobile recycling station (“Wertstoffmobil”) as part of Project E6. While the service has already been operating successfully for years, it has now been extended with additional stops and longer service times at supermarket parking lots, making recycling even more convenient for residents.

By bringing collection points directly to everyday shopping locations, the initiative helps people integrate recycling into their daily routines. Especially for busy residents or those with limited mobility, this low-threshold approach removes common barriers to proper disposal.

The expanded mobile recycling service supports a more sustainable handling of electrical and electronic devices by ensuring that small appliances, batteries, and other valuable materials are collected separately and returned to the recycling loop. By making disposal easier and more accessible, the initiative helps conserve resources, prevent valuable materials from being lost, and significantly increase collection rates. Accepted items include small electronic devices, batteries, energy-saving lamps, printer cartridges, textiles, and selected reusable materials — all collected for proper treatment and recycling.

This expansion shows how existing municipal services can be further developed within local circular economy ecosystems — turning everyday routines into opportunities for environmental action and strengthening sustainable resource management.
