Last month, the E6 project embarked on a transformative journey in Leuven (Belgium), uniting partners in a shared vision to cultivate a self-sustaining repair ecosystem. The collaborative gathering served as a starting point to pool knowledge and expertise, igniting discussions on the imperative of making Re-use, Repair, and Refurbishment (RRR) not just an option but the foremost choice as it brings lots of opportunities and benefits for the local economy and for all of us as citizens.
During a communication workshop to exchange their impressions and ambitions in the project, partners voiced their aspirations for this European initiative, emphasizing the need to raise awareness among citizens regarding consumption patterns and the environmental impact of developing different types of electrical and electronic equipment production. They underscored the pivotal role of RRR in shaping environmental policy, curbing carbon emissions, exposing the real cost of purchasing and producing goods which reveals the full scope of consumerism, among others.
Beyond environmental benefits, partners highlighted the societal advantages of normalizing RRR. By prioritizing RRR, partners believe that the project will foster a culture of responsibility towards possessions, while enhancing access to quality equipment for all.
The E6 project is envisioned as a catalyst for social change, propelling us towards a circular and ecological solution to e-waste. Partners also highlighted that this journey is not solely embarked upon by the 19 European organisations, public institutions, universities, and agencies involved, but also by regional stakeholder groups united in their commitment to RRR.
Stay tuned as we pave the way for a more sustainable tomorrow!
