How do we ensure that electrical and electronic equipment is used for as long as possible? This question is central to E6.
The Municipality of Apeldoorn, Circulus (a company that collects and manages waste, raw materials and public space on behalf of 9 Dutch municipalities) and Foenix Upcycling en Reintegration (a leading circular craft centre) in Nederland stimulate circular economy by encouraging longer use, reuse, repair and refurbishment. If a product lasts longer, it is better for the environment and for future generations. After all, you don't need materials, transport and energy to make and transport a new product.
To improve the collection of electronics and awareness of the importance of lifespan extension, the three organisations work very closely. This improves collection at the Circulus recycling square and ensures that more is repaired, for a second life.
Commenting on the project, Councillor Danny Huizer (Veluwe, Climate and Energy) stated: “It is very nice and important that we do this! As a municipality, we attach great importance to sustainability and the circular economy. By becoming increasingly aware of the importance of taking care of your belongings and being economical on raw materials, we are moving towards a more sustainable future.”
